The stock at Eildon Cottage are all outwintered. Lambing is generally from the end of Feb through March. The ewes come in a week before lambing and go out again as soon as possible afterwards. A small embryo program is undertaken each year just to speed up the genetic improvement of the flock.
The Eildon Flock is one of the founding members of the MLC Sire Reference Recording scheme. The present senior stock ram, Knowsie Boomerang has made a great impression on the “across flocks” growth and muscle figures. In 2006, a son, BL44W E74ET was the highest rated lamb in the scheme with an index of 302, a scan weight of 72 kgs and a record muscle depth of 35.1mm @ 21 weeks.
Eildon Border Leicesters are striving to combine the best sheep with the best figures.
Ram lambs sold at Lanark and shearlings at Builth. Visitors always welcome
